Snap Ad · story safe area overlay
Snapchat ad safe zone checker
This Snapchat ad safe zone checker puts brand lockup, a 34-character headline, swipe-up CTA, and the camera cluster on a 1080×1920 stage. Use it for Snap ad UI margins and as a Snapchat story safe area overlay before Ads Manager. Client-side only — no upload required.

Pixel math on 1080×1920
Pixel values assume a 1080×1920 design canvas — the interchange size for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, and Stories. Millimetres are physical equivalents at 460 ppi (iPhone 15/16 Pro Max class) and 505 ppi (Galaxy S24 Ultra class) if that canvas is shown fullscreen.
| Region | Pixels | Percent | mm @ 460 ppi | mm @ 505 ppi |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Snap canvas Single-image, video, and collection ads share 1080×1920. | 1080 × 1920 px | 100.0% × 100.0% | 59.6 mm × 106.0 mm | 54.3 mm × 96.6 mm |
Brand lockup + timestamp Snapchat draws the brand name and snap timestamp here. | 1080 × 230 px | 100.0% × 12.0% | 59.6 mm × 12.7 mm | 54.3 mm × 11.6 mm |
Headline cap (34 characters) Snap’s character cap is hard — longer strings ellipsize. | 918 × 96 px | 85.0% × 5.0% | 50.7 mm × 5.3 mm | 46.2 mm × 4.8 mm |
Swipe-up / attachment CTA Pill CTA plus chevron. Do not put type behind it. | 918 × 134 px | 85.0% × 7.0% | 50.7 mm × 7.4 mm | 46.2 mm × 6.7 mm |
Lower chrome Headline, CTA, and navigation cluster. | 1080 × 403 px | 100.0% × 21.0% | 59.6 mm × 22.3 mm | 54.3 mm × 20.3 mm |
Recommended safe rectangle Center the product; Snap’s lens UI can inset further on some SKUs. | 972 × 1286 px | 90.0% × 67.0% | 53.7 mm × 71.0 mm | 48.9 mm × 64.7 mm |

Snap ad UI margins and a headline that actually fits
Thirty-four characters is a constraint with teeth. “New summer collection is here” is 29 characters and fits. “Introducing the all-new summer collection for members” does not. FramePad’s estimator uses the Snapchat cap as the default so a media team can fail a line before a designer draws it. Ads written like Reels captions will ellipsize.
The headline sits above a swipe-up pill, not above a tab bar. That means the lower third is a poster region rather than a social caption region. Burned-in paragraphs here will fight the headline. Prefer a single product shot or a face, and let the native headline carry the offer. Brand lockup and timestamp occupy the top-left and top-right. Do not put a second logo in the top-left. Snap will draw one for you from the account. A duplicate logo reads as a glitch, not as emphasis.
This Snapchat story safe area overlay is the right first pass even when the buy is a collection ad. Collection attachments change after the tap; the canvas does not.
Swipe-up is the only CTA
There is no like column. There is a swipe-up (or tap) attachment. The pill is centered near y = 79%, about 56% wide. Fake buttons elsewhere in the frame train thumbs to tap dead pixels. If you need to explain the destination, do it in the 34-character headline (“Shop the drop”) not in a burned-in URL.
The camera cluster at the bottom center is Snap-native chrome. End cards that center a logo on the shutter will lose it. Offset the closing mark upward into the title-safe box. On iPhone 16 Pro Max the shutter and home indicator stack. The 21% bottom hold-out is the right answer; do not shave it because a mockup in Figma used a home-button iPhone.
If the same 9:16 master also feeds Meta, confirm the 14 / 20 split on the Meta ad safe zone previewer. Snap’s bottom hold-out is 21%; Meta’s is 20%. Design to the stricter of the two if you refuse a second export.
CTR on a tap-right surface
Stories on Snap are tap-right, not swipe-up-to-the-next-creator. You have two to three seconds before a bored thumb advances. Motion in the first frame matters more than copy. If the first frame is a 16:9 crop of a wide shot, pan onto a face in FramePad before you export. Collection ads and story ads share the canvas but not the attachment. Preview as a Snap Ad first (this overlay), then confirm on device for collection SKUs. The overlay will still save you from headline overflow.
Galaxy S24 Ultra’s extra pixels do not change the 1080×1920 design space. Always composite at 1080×1920. FramePad’s millimetre columns in the spec table exist so a print-trained art director can feel the physical size of the headline well on glass.
Padding versus crop for Snap
Snapchat’s audience is mobile-native. Black letterboxing looks like a mistranscode. Prefer crop when the subject survives a punch-in, and blur pad when you must keep a full 16:9 set. Color pad can work if the pad is the brand color and the asset is already graphic. The vertical video padding tool is the dedicated blur/color path; this page is the overlay check after you pad.
Export a proof with the overlay burned in. Snap reviews are still done on laptops. A proof sheet is how a laptop review sees the phone. Nothing is uploaded. Blob URLs are revoked when you replace the file. A Snap video ad previewer that stays private.
Collection ads, lenses, and why 5% side gutter is a floor
Collection attachments change after the tap. The canvas you design here is the cover Snap, not the catalogue. Keep the product readable as a still. Lenses can inset further than the base overlay; if the buy includes a lens, leave more than 5% side gutter and re-preview on device. Do not shave the 21% bottom hold-out because a mock used a home-button phone.
Headline character count is not a suggestion. Thirty-four characters is the working cap for a single-line Snap Ad headline. Run the overlap estimator with the Snapchat cap before a copy deck is locked. Ads written like Reels captions will ellipsize, and ellipsis is not a strategy.
If the same 9:16 master also feeds Meta, design to the stricter bottom hold-out and confirm both overlays. Snap is 21%; Meta is 20%. One extra percent is 19 pixels at 1920 — enough to cover a legal line you thought was safe.
