Meta ad safe zone previewer
This Meta ad safe zone previewer renders the 14% top and 20% bottom hold-outs Meta publishes for Stories and Reels ads. Use it as a Facebook Reels ad safe area check and an Instagram Story ad overlay check before a file enters Ads Manager. Client-side WASM, no upload required.

Pixel math on 1080×1920
Pixel values assume a 1080×1920 design canvas — the interchange size for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, and Stories. Millimetres are physical equivalents at 460 ppi (iPhone 15/16 Pro Max class) and 505 ppi (Galaxy S24 Ultra class) if that canvas is shown fullscreen.
| Region | Pixels | Percent | mm @ 460 ppi | mm @ 505 ppi |
|---|---|---|---|---|
Placement canvas Stories, Reels, and in-stream Advantage+ vertical share this canvas. | 1080 × 1920 px | 100.0% × 100.0% | 59.6 mm × 106.0 mm | 54.3 mm × 96.6 mm |
Profile + Sponsored + skip Meta’s 14% top hold-out. Never put a logo or legal line here. | 1080 × 269 px | 100.0% × 14.0% | 59.6 mm × 14.9 mm | 54.3 mm × 13.5 mm |
Primary CTA button Full-width rounded button. Copy max ~18–22 characters. | 972 × 96 px | 90.0% × 5.0% | 53.7 mm × 5.3 mm | 48.9 mm × 4.8 mm |
Headline / social context Headline plus “Sponsored” sit on top of the CTA. | 972 × 154 px | 90.0% × 8.0% | 53.7 mm × 8.5 mm | 48.9 mm × 7.7 mm |
Bottom 20% hold-out CTA, headline, and home indicator. All product type must clear this. | 1080 × 384 px | 100.0% × 20.0% | 59.6 mm × 21.2 mm | 54.3 mm × 19.3 mm |
Official text-safe rectangle The only region Meta guarantees will not collide with chrome. | 950 × 1267 px | 88.0% × 66.0% | 52.5 mm × 70.0 mm | 47.8 mm × 63.7 mm |

Fits the caption well. Verify with the overlay — platform fonts still wrap on word boundaries.

Meta ad rejected text overlap rules for vertical video
Meta’s ads renderer is allowed to draw interface on top of your pixels in the hold-out bands. That is the deal you accept when you buy Stories or Reels placements. Legal lines, price, and the product’s name cannot live there. FramePad’s unsafe dim is those bands at 14% and 20%. If you can still read your headline through the dim, the headline is in the wrong place — and a text-overlap rejection is the likely review outcome.
The native headline is a short string above a full-width CTA pill. If you also burn a headline into the video, you now have two headlines competing in the same vertical neighborhood. Pick one. Performance teams usually keep the native headline for the offer and the burn-in for the brand or the proof. Skip and the story progress bars occupy the top. Animated intros that start with a logo slam in the first 12 frames will be covered on device even if they look fine in a desktop QuickTime window. Delay the logo until it can sit in the center third, or accept a silent first beat.
This Meta video ad overlay check is percentage-based on 1080×1920. Ads Manager’s desktop preview does not composite mobile chrome at true design pixels. Preview here, then upload.
CTA geometry and Instagram Story ad safe dimensions
The CTA is a wide rounded rectangle at roughly y = 80%, 88% of width, 5.6% of height. It is a thumb target. Any burned-in “Shop” button you place nearby will look like a duplicate and may steal taps that Ads Manager cannot count. Do not draw a fake button. Draw a reason to tap the real one.
On iPhone 15/16 Pro Max the CTA sits above the home indicator; on Galaxy S24 Ultra it sits above a similar gesture bar. The 20% hold-out already accounts for that. Trust it. Shrinking the hold-out because “our brand color matches the button” is how a campaign ships with an unreadable price. Character counts: headline 40, primary text separately in the placement, CTA 22. The overlap estimator on this page is calibrated to the headline well, not to feed copy.
If the organic Reel version of the same file needs a different gutter, confirm it on the Instagram Reels safe zone tool. Paid and organic do not share chrome even when they share a canvas.
Advantage+ will remix your crop
Advantage+ placements can serve the same 9:16 asset into Stories, Reels, and in-stream. In-stream may letterbox. The only robust response is a master whose meaning survives both a tight vertical and a padded presentation. That is why FramePad offers crop, blur pad, and color pad on the same overlay: you can export two masters and let the buyer choose per placement instead of hoping one file flexes.
Faces convert. If the crop cuts a jawline to keep a logo, keep the jawline. Meta’s delivery system is aggressively face-aware; a bisected head is a delivery tax you will not see in Ads Manager as a line item, only as CPM that refuses to fall.
We checked hold-outs against screenshots from iPhone 16 Pro Max and Galaxy S24 Ultra running current Instagram and Facebook. The 14 / 20 split still matches the live chrome. When Meta ships a new button, FramePad’s overlay file is the thing we revise — see the log on the contact page.
From 16:9 broadcast spots to vertical ads
A 16:9 TV spot cannot be auto-reflowed. The product shot is usually center-weighted in landscape and becomes a tiny island in vertical. Use the 16:9 to 9:16 video cropper to punch in on the product for the first two seconds, then consider a blur-pad wide shot so the viewer understands the scene. Two exports, one narrative.
Legal supers that were safe in a 16:9 lower-third are unreadable in the Meta hold-out and can fail review. Rebuild them as a center-frame card held for the required duration. After the Meta overlay, a second pass on Snapchat ad safe zone is useful if the same 9:16 master also feeds Snap — the headline cap there is 34 characters, not 40. All of it stays in the tab: a private video editor with no server upload.
